Time Series Analysis of a Closed-loop Electro-spouted Bed System

Over the past several years our research has focused on the development of classical regression models that describe the disposition process occurring in an electro-spouted bed system. Previous analyses addressed the development of linear regression models that related the chemical plating process to electric current levels, liquid flow rates and bed geometry, i.e. intrinsic engineering parameters. In the present paper a statistical model is developed for the entire system dynamics that includes coupling the electro spouted-bed unit to an inline mixer. Time series analysis is used to characterize the effect of internal process flow rates, mixer volume, reactor size and electric current levels on system stability. In order to test this integrated chemical system beyond its geometrical limits, an electronic mock-up (circuit analog) of the chemical-based system was built. Classical time series techniques are then used to predict when the system transitions to unstable (chaotic) behavior.
